TD Bank Group Adds Multi-year Support for SONG

Port Hope, ON — October 2025 — TD Bank Group is funding SONG’s Aftershool programming, ensuring kids across Northumberland receive high-quality, free music education and experiences.

SONG is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a $25,500 annual grant through the TD Ready Commitment — the Bank’s national philanthropy initiative supporting vibrant and inclusive communities. This two‑year grant supports SONG’s After‑School Music Programming and ensures predictable, low‑barrier classes for children across Northumberland County.

🎶 Building Connected Communities Through Music

At a time when music education is under pressure, this funding enables SONG to hire local Teaching Artists, support their professional development, and deliver high‑quality music instruction in rural settings. Through group learning and performance, SONG builds connection, culture and youth resilience right here at home.

“This support allows us to keep music in the hearts and halls of local schools,” says Lucas Marchand, Artistic Director at SONG. “It strengthens our mission to help every child, no matter where they live, feel the joy of learning music with others.”

What this grant makes possible

  • More young people across the county learning together, creating together
  • Free after‑school music classes in Choral, Strings, and Rock Band, and now SONG Samples – short courses that allow new students to try music out.
  • Hiring local Teaching Artists who receive extra training to meet students’ changing needs
  • A strong and lasting foundation for music culture in Northumberland

“SONG is becoming a launchpad for our young local talent,” says Executive Director, Miles Bowman. “Our students are learning connection, confidence and creative belonging. And through expressing their creativity, our performers take Northumberland’s unique contributions out into the broader world.”

Aligning with TD’s “Connected Communities” Goal

Under the TD Ready Commitment, TD aims to support organizations that help people participate and feel included in their communities through shared cultural experiences. SONG’s work with rural schools and local youth aligns directly with that vision. This grant creates opportunities for you to be involved: email info@songprogram.org with the subject “Volunteer” to learn more.

This grant arrives just as SONG prepares to serve even more children: with over 130 students already enrolled, 11 after‑school programs, and multiple new initiatives underway, SONG is targeting more than 600 kids this season.
