Sounds of the Next Generation (SONG) is proud to announce that we have been awarded the 2025 Innovation Award from the Township of Hamilton as part of its Community Recognition Awards.
The Innovation Award recognizes organizations that are finding creative, effective, and forward-thinking ways to strengthen community life, often in the face of limited resources.
To be recognized in this category is a meaningful acknowledgement of SONG’s work to reimagine what music education can look like in a rural community.

This award belongs to our students. Every time a young person steps onto a stage, finds their voice, or connects through music — that’s innovation in action.”
Miles Bowman, Executive Director
SONG was honoured at the Community Recognition Awards ceremony, where students also took the stage — a powerful reminder that the impact of this work is not theoretical, but lived, heard, and felt throughout the community.
Through its integrated programming — After School, In School, and SoundStage — SONG continues to expand access to music education for young people in Grades 1–12 across Northumberland County, reaching students directly in schools and community spaces.
This recognition reflects a growing movement: one where rural youth are not just participants in the arts, but leaders shaping the cultural life of their community.
SONG extends its sincere thanks to the Township of Hamilton for this honour and for celebrating the role that creativity and youth voice play in building a vibrant, connected community.
