There’s always a new way to say singing is good for you! Recent studies show that people bond best when making music together. It helps people feel needed by their community.

At SONG, we are fortunate to see all the time how singing in a group offers a sense of belonging to something bigger than oneself. Students take ownership of the music making process, and both individual and group improvement by taking on mentoring roles. This is the heart of the El Sistema model, upon which SONG is based, to help develop responsible, joyful, contributing members of a community.

And community is what keeps us singing—at two major concerts and several events each year, as our audience and donors. SONG is entirely funded by community and is made possible by support like Sing Canada Harmony’s scholarships, which are funded through donors across the country who believe singing plays a vital role in the development of a healthy, creative and engaged community.

Since opening its doors in 2013, SONG has received the generous support of Sing Canada Harmony, to the tune of $6,600! This generosity has directly enabled SONG to continue providing a safe place for kids to grow and develop critical social skills through the pursuit of musical excellence. Singing as a group, students share aspiration and investment and feel they’re an asset to their community. And in turn, they learn that their community has faith in them and their ability to learn and grow.

Thank you Sing Canada Harmony for your ongoing support and for keeping singing vibrant in our country!
